Six historic brownstones and two townhouses, previously owned by the Whitney Museum of American Art, were converted into a boutique, mixed-use development. The brownstones were redesigned to create 10 high-end residences, each offering three to five bedrooms. Copper, selected for its authenticity as the original building material, was used in the restoration. Not only was copper chosen for its long-lasting and easy-to-work-with properties, but also for its visual charm, as it naturally develops a patina green over time. The redevelopment faced hurdles, as five of the brownstones, built in the 1890s, required approval from the Landmarks Preservation Commission. Reviving the façade preserves the original architecture and historical value of the buildings.
